As the prevailing approaches of political trust studies, rationalist and culturalist approach, might not sufficiently consider the specific context of Hong Kong after 1997, they overshadowed the importance of the impact from political identity and democratic value on the political trust of Hong Kong residents. Based on the data from surveys from the Asian Barometer Survey in 2012 and 2016, this study attempts to offer a new integrative framework with the use of ordinal logistic regression to investigate the impact of political identity and democratic value on political trust of Hong Kong government among Hong Kong residents, so that this could avoid the problems of institutional determinism from the rationalist approach and values determinism from the culturalist approach. Findings show that political identity is not necessarily the key factor to political trust to the Hong Kong government among Hong Kong residents. The value of democracy and politics rather than economic value and political identity are more likely the key factors of political trust.
