Abstract
Advances of technologies have resulted in rapid growth of biological data and led to wide applications of visualization and Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) computing in biomedical studies. Visualization tools try to gain a better understanding of the biomedical data with the help of human visual system, while GPU computing has become a new trend for solving large-scale computational problems.
In this thesis, we will present our work on visualization of mass spectrometry data, GPU computing in ultrasound-based tissue deformation analysis and GPU computing in genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data analysis. These examples vividly illustrate that the proper applications of visualization and computation tools will largely facilitate biomedical research.
