Abstract
Electric outboard is becoming a popular option for boat propulsion in small boat for its positive environmental impacts, better user experience and low operating cost.
The motor is one of the most important components of the outboard since it converts electric energy into mechanical energy. Its performance will largely affect the performance of the outboard. A high torque density and low rotational speed is developed to fulfill the requirement of the electric outboard.
In this thesis, the design process of a brushless DC motor is present. The process to decide the key parameters of the motor will be introduced followed by the optimization method to improve the performance of the motor.
