Abstract
This paper makes use of the special features of the Hong Kong society in order to decompose the marriage premium. It can be shown that specialization effect and selection effect both contribute significantly to the marriage premium. However, discrimination effect seems not robust as it contributes in both sides to the marriage premium with different specification. The decomposition shows that more than 15% of the marriage premium can be attributed to specialization effect while selection effect contributes to the marriage premium as high as 40%.
