Abstract
With the recent popularity of luxury apparel and accessories in mid-level and higher income households, the Jewellery Grade Diamond Market has been exponentially growing in the last few decades, especially in the Asian regions of China and India. As a solution to growing demands and reducing mined diamond supply, the technology behind growing diamonds in Laboratories with the exact same conditions as a diamond’s origin has been explored since the Cold War Era. Traditionally these Laboratory Grown Diamonds were used for industrial purposes such as abrasives or drilling tips, but with the progress in the quality and control of the manufacturing process, the notion of making Jewellery Grade Laboratory Grown Diamonds has become popular. The two main methods used for Jewellery Grade Laboratory grown Production are High-Temperature High Pressure (HTHP) and Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD). This Thesis has two major components. Firstly, it explores the technical enhancements to the existing techniques which intend to increase the yield and quality of the grown diamonds. Secondly, it introduces the Business Innovation and Marketing Strategies used to ensure that the Laboratory Grown Diamonds are accepted and recognised in the Luxury and Jewellery Industry.
