Abstract
This paper introduces a hybrid sampling and wavetable synthesis method for matching acoustic instruments using genetic algorithm optimization. The method uses sampling for the critical attack portion of the tone and wavetable synthesis to match the more gradually changing sustain and decay. To perform a smooth transition between them, we use a hybrid sampling-wavetable crossfade. We have matched various tones from the piano, harp, glockenspiel and muyu.
