Abstract
The lack of relative depth information in simulated 3D environments hinders 3D navigation. To assist users in this task, I have developed a self-luminous cursor, SLC, which is a 3D cursor that has a hot spot consisting of a point light source. The light from the SLC provides relative depth information betlveen an object and the SLC, as well as among objects in the scene. An experiment was carried out demonstrating the effectiveness of a SLC in reducing the time and the traversal distance required in a 3D navigation task.
