Abstract
One of the most famous 17th century depictions of the continent of Asia, it first appeared in 1618 and was reissued by the Blaeu family firm for the next 55 years. Note the examples of different Asian costumes in margins and the detailed town plans of major European trading ports and settlements in the region: Candy (Kandy in Sri Lanka); Calecuth (Calcutta); Goa; Domasco (Damascus); Ierusalem (Jerusalem); Ormus (Hormuz in Iran); Bantam (in Indonesia); Aden (in Yemen); and Macao. Japan is shown unusually accurate while Korea is depicted as an elongated island on the Ortelius-Teixeira model
