Abstract
The first available printed map of the Pacific Ocean, it was published in 1589 to commemorate the first circumnavigational voyage of the world (over 75 years previously), led by Ferdinand Magellan. The map includes parts of Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Japan and extends to the entire western seaboard of the Americas. Note Magellan's ship, "Victoria", emerging from the Straits that bear his name.
