Abstract
In this project, we have demonstrated that a 1.3μm Distributed Feedback (DFB) Laser can be used as an optical amplifier. This is achieved by injecting a laser beam from an external tunable laser into the DFB laser. The amplification at different injected optical power and injected current is studied.
A Fabry-Perot cavity is used to simulated the amplification process. We have found the appropriate functional form of gain and wave number inside the cavity to explain the experimental results.
The result of our modelling indicates that an amplification ratio of 2450 can be obtained at wavelength of 13085Onm
