Abstract
In this thesis, we propose a system using switched-beam smart antennas with capture using a Slotted ALOHA protocol for a mobile communications environment with Rayleigh and Log-normal fading. We consider a configuration where multiple receivers are present at each base station and calculate the capture probability (throughput when multiple receivers are used) and its asymptotic value, as the number of colliding packets tends to infinity. The results demonstrate that by using switched-beam smart antenna system and capture effect, we can achieve higher performance in terms of throughput and capture probability when compared to a conventional antenna system using the Slotted ALOHA protocol. We also conduct a set of performance evaluation tests with some traffic models (data traffic, voice...[

We also conduct a set of performance evaluation tests with some traffic models (data traffic, voice traffic and video traffic) which further prove that our proposed system can be applied in real applications.
