Abstract
Quality of Service provisioning is becoming more and more important to the success of deployment of mobile adhoc networks (MANETs) for both civilian and military applications. With this aim in mind, in this Thesis, we present a novel wireless QoS architecture that comprises a set of integrated protocols which enable MANETs with QoS capability. The protocols will encompass all the functions and algorithms needed to guarantee QoS at different layers in the networking stack, and range from fairness guarantees in the medium access control layer, to admission control in both the MAC layer and the Network layer as well as QoS enabled routing at the network layer. Most importantly, we will examine the performance of the adhoc network under the control of this integrated set of protocols to investigate the QoS capability of adhoc networks. This is of paramount importance as there has not been any work in the field that integrates all such functions. To show the effectiveness of the architecture into providing QoS, a comprehensive simulation program has been developed that integrates all these protocols, and various scenarios are simulated under different traffic loads and mobility patterns.
