THIS thesis discovers issues which may appear during adoptions of RFID in supply chain practices using Management of Technology (MOT) and technology adoption approaches.
Based on survey results and research potentials, evaluation of investment and adop-tion of technology standards as two key issue sets are selected out. Over them further discussions are developed.
Real options theory is used to evaluate RFID investment. Contingent decisions are framed through this approach. Deferral as an option is specially considered and applied to help find the optimal timing to exercise an RFID investment.
Prevailing standards built and adventured by EPCglobal are also challenged. By examining their current work and reviewing history of the IT industry, we believe lack of layered architecture and security model are key reasons that prevent the healthy development of the open Auto-ID world and the wide acceptance of the industry. Reasons behind are structurally analyzed.
Our major contribution is that through utmost literature review, appropriate meth-ods are used and the RFID adoption problem is studied from certain unheeded aspects.
