Multi-user Wireless network play a very important role in the next generation commu-nication technologies. Thus, Multiuser detection (MUD) is a well-known and promising technology to improve the spectral efficiency and system throughput of the wireless systems. A natural question to ask is how good MUD performs theoretically in fading channel with different base station environment and what effects MUD and other tech-nologies such as Soft Handover(SHO) will bring when designing the cellular multiuser wireless systems.
In this thesis, we would like to address these problems. The first part of the thesis discussed about information theoretical analysis of the MUD with Successive Interfer-ence Cancellation(SIC) in slow fading channel. Packet outage is our primary concern and system goodput defined as bitssecHz successfully received by base station is our performance measurement. Performance analysis is being taken in multi-user Single Input Single Output(SISO) and Single Input Multiple Output(SIMO) uplink situation. Analytical expression is derived for MUD with SIC in these two systems.
The second part of the thesis discussed about how MUD brings effects in to the design of wireless multi-user cellular system. We investigate what is the optimal intra-cell and inter-cell resource allocation strategy and how MUD and SHO affect the system design. Similarly, slow fading channel is considered as our fading channel model. Packet outage is also our primary concern and system goodput is used as our performance measurement in our investigation. Some results in the first part of the thesis is used in our analysis.
