Abstract
In this thesis, the benefits of delayed product differentiation, which is a commonly used approach to handle the changing demands of different products, are studied. Company R is a real world apparel company, the operations managers of which are considering resequencing their supply chain to delay the point of differentiation. Three cases, independent demands, correlated demands, and independent demands with capacity constraint, are proposed to illustrate the cost savings after implementing this approach. Numerical results show that the benefit can be very huge. Furthermore, the cost savings are not sensitive to the fixed cost. The models provide meaningful managerial insights and industrial applications.
