Industrial concentration slightly increased from 1993 to 2002, while the spatial concentration increased significantly, indicating that the actual competition was likely to become even more intense in China's industrial...[

This study utilized a unique firm-level data set and all available published data about China's industrial sector to construct the industrial concentration indices and industrial spatial (province level) concentration indices from 1992 to 2002 at the four-digit industry level and to demonstrate the industrial concentration level ands the time trends in these years. The industrial concentration of China's industrial sector was generally quite low in the same period, lending support to the widely held opinion that there was intense competition in China's industrial sector. Industrial concentration slightly increased from 1993 to 2002, while the spatial concentration increased significantly, indicating that the actual competition was likely to become even more intense in China's industrial sector since 1993.
