In the first section, I will argue that we can draw a distinction of two kinds of akrasia. They are cool akrasia and warm akrasia. Different versions of akrasia shall be introduced and reviewed, from Frank Jackson to Ronald DeSousa.
In the second section, I will explain how Wang’s Xin Xue coheres with the warm akrasia version as well as amended cold akrasia. I would try to reconstruct Wang’s moral psychology to explain akrasia.
In the third section, I will try to introduce a psychological strategy to decode and articulate Wang’s Gong‐fu‐lun (功夫論), training for morality, and how his method could match with modern psychology.
In general, I will focus on the latter topic and its relationship with Chinese philosophy, especially focusing on Wang Yang‐ming’s Xin Xue (心學; Theory of heart/mind), also known as school of inner‐knowledge. I think that besides Western philosophy, Chinese philosophy also has resources to deal with the problem of akrasia.
