Abstract
A multilevel antimicrobial coating which synthesized based on double-encapsulation technology was announced by Prof. King Lun Yeung’s group for persistent surface disinfection. In this work, investigation about the sporicidal properties of the coating is performed, and was evaluated by suspension challenge, surface challenge and diffusion zone tests against B. Subtilis endospores, Cladosporium, Penicillium and Aspergillus fungal spores. Simultaneously, the formulation of the coating was optimized through exploration of roles of each chemical component. Finally, attempts to understand the spore kill mechanism by this coating is achieved using chemometric characterization methods including SEM, TEM, ToF-SIMS and Micro-Raman.
