Abstract
A map of the western coastlines of Taiwan and the adjacent coastlines of China, first appeared in China around 1715, was published in Jesuits' "Lettres Edifiantes et Curieuses", in Paris in 1720. In the early 18th century, on the order of the Chinese Emperor, Jesuits from Europe undertook detailed surveys of all regions of China. These surveys were the basis for this small map, and later, for the maps of Du Halde and DʼAnville.
