Abstract
The sports industry has witnessed an enormous change from the application of technology in athletic training as well as fan engagement. New areas for application of technology in sports are being explored. With advancement in the fields of micro sensors, motion algorithms, mobile chipsets and other consumer mobile technologies, it has become possible to enhance sports training by delivering highly accurate and real-time analysis and feedback of athletic performance. Most popular sports such as Soccer, Football, Basketball, and Baseball have been notorious for very high injury rates. Not much has been achieved in reducing these injuries. Coaches and trainers have relied primarily only on personal judgement to deal with injuries. With the application of wearable motion sensing technology,...[

With the application of wearable motion sensing technology, these problems of injury recovery and injury prevention can be dealt with responsibly using data-driven performance training. This thesis covers the commercialization of a motion sensing wearable technology product called Fit-Kick which could enable such data-driven training. The thesis covers in detail the development of a suitable business model for Fit-Kick, which will describe all essential aspects of the business framework which are customer segments, value proposition, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partnerships and cost structures. In order to derive such as a business model for Fit-Kick this thesis applies the Business Model Canvas framework to the novel wearable technology industry. On the basis of the developed business model, an actionable business plan covering the market study, product positioning, sales and marketing, IP, team, funding and financial strategies has been proposed for the commercial launch of Fit-Kick. The derived business model and the proposed business plan for Fit-Kick could serve as a starting point to develop the business strategy of a similar wearable technology venture operating within the novel sports technology industry.
