Abstract
Perovskite has emerged as a class of star materials for photovoltaic application in terms of
the low-cost solution-processed technology and the superior optoelectronic properties.
Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with high performance have been mainly fabricated through
compositional and interfacial engineering. In this thesis, I mainly focus on the fabrication of
planar PSCs using variable precursor compositions, such as CsPbIBr

0.95. In addition, interfacial materials (including
perovskite defect-passivation materials, hole transporting materials, and electrode interfacial
materials) have been employed to (i) reduce the trap-state density and (ii) enhance the charge-carrier
transport, and hence to (iii) suppress the carrier recombination. The studies aim to (i)
achieve crystal formation of different precursor compositions, (ii) develop interfacial materials
to reduce non-radiative recombination, and (iii) fabricate high-performance and stable PSCs.
This thesis tackles the critical challenges in PSCs research and lays the foundation for a
fundamental understanding but also eventually industrialization.
