Abstract
In recent years, banks have had increased interest in workflow technologies, and advanced workflow automation has resulted in many technological and organizational changes in the banking industry. However, there is increasing recognition that workflow automation is still an information technology area with untapped potential for managing critical business processes, boosting productivity, and improving customer service. This thesis investigates the relationship between workflow automation and organizational structure in banking and financial services. It first analyzes the levels of workflow automation, investigates the degree of centralization in banks, examines some representative processes in real world settings, and finally develops a theoretical framework to address the relationship of workflow automation and organizational structure in banking processes. The results of this research will provide useful insights and guidelines on how to improve the efficiency of business operations in banks by adopting workflow automation to satisfy the changing business requirements in banking and financial services.
