With the rapid growth of the Internet, more and more computer users are demanding more information from the Web. This includes daily news, journal papers, movies and songs. Most of the information on the Internet cost only a few dollars. A low-cost electronic charging mechanism should be provided to the intellectual property owners so that they can profit from providing these services.
This paper will first survey the electronic payment technologies and systems. Then the system architecture of the payment gateway will be studied to resist external attacks and to protect keys that are used in encrypting messages from being accessed by unauthorized persons. A mechanism will be proposed to perform the payment process, which allows customers to purchase goods on the Web securely. A simulation model will be built for the proposed payment mechanism and performance analysis on the proposed architecture and payment mechanism will be carried out.
